Job Summary
The Payments and Screening Project Manager will lead the delivery of BACB’s strategic Payments and Transaction Screening transformation initiatives. This includes implementation of the new cloud-based Payments execution platform (VolPay) and the modernisation of the Bank’s Fircosoft Screening solution.
The role covers full lifecycle delivery from initiation through to transition to business-as-usual, ensuring both workstreams meet regulatory, operational, and technology objectives. The Project Manager will coordinate internal stakeholders, technology teams, and external vendors, managing dependencies across Payments, Screening, Integration, and supporting infrastructure.
This includes coordination of all activities within BACB’s Azure tenancy, ensuring secure connectivity, appropriate environment setup, and alignment with BACB’s cloud governance and security standards.
This is a hands-on delivery role requiring strong planning, vendor management, and governance control, with accountability for achieving milestones and ensuring effective operational adoption across both programmes.
Key Work Outputs and Accountabilities
Programme & Project Delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of BACB’s Payments and Screening transformation projects, ensuring alignment between both workstreams and the Core Banking roadmap.
- Manage vendor onboarding, design, implementation, and transition for VolPay and Fircosoft solutions.
- Coordinate inputs across Technology, Operations, Compliance, and Risk to maintain delivery momentum.
- Track and manage interdependencies across Payments, Screening, Integration, and Infrastructure activities.
- Oversee environment provisioning, connectivity, and security coordination within BACB’s Azure tenancy, working with internal cloud administrators and infrastructure teams to ensure readiness and compliance.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure both workstreams align with internal governance, risk, and control frameworks.
- Oversee compliance with SWIFT, ISO 20022, and applicable FCA or financial crime requirements.
- Support audit readiness and contribute to regulatory submissions as required.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Act as central point of contact for all Payments and Screening activities across internal teams and vendors.
- Provide regular progress reporting to Steering Committee and senior stakeholders.
- Maintain close alignment between technical delivery and business outcomes for Operations and Compliance.
Planning & Budget Management
- Manage project budgets, milestones, and resource plans for both workstreams.
- Ensure vendor invoicing and milestone tracking reflect contractual obligations.
- Work with PMO and Finance to align cost reporting across Payments and Screening.
Testing, Cutover & Transition
- Coordinate integrated testing across Payments, SWIFT, and Screening components.
- Manage cutover and go-live activities, including dress rehearsals and rollback plans.
- Support early life support and handover to BAU.
Key Deliverables
- Approved and tracked delivery plans for Payments and Screening.
- Risk, issue, and dependency logs maintained and reported.
- Successful implementation of Payments and Screening solutions meeting regulatory and operational needs.
- Clear handover to BAU with training, controls, and support structures in place.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 7 years of project management experience within banking or financial services, including delivery of Payments and/or Transaction Screening programmes.
- Strong understanding of UK and cross-border payment schemes (e.g. CHAPS, Faster Payments, SWIFT MT/MX, ISO 20022).
- Familiarity with sanctions and transaction screening technologies, ideally Fircosoft or equivalent.
- Experience implementing third-party or SaaS-based solutions, including SWIFT connectivity and Cloud migration.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-vendor environments and complex integration dependencies.
- Working knowledge of core banking systems (preferably Temenos T24/Transact) and integration to Payments and Screening platforms.
- Experience working in a regulated banking environment with awareness of financial crime and operational resilience requirements.
Technical Skills
- Strong delivery management and planning capability, including RAID management, resource coordination, and milestone control.
- Understanding of integration patterns (REST APIs, SOAP, file transfer, SFTP) and testing methodologies.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted financial systems and associated security and resilience considerations.
- Experience coordinating activities within a Microsoft Azure tenancy, including environment provisioning, access controls, VPN configuration, and secure connectivity for SaaS and hosted solutions.
- Skilled in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams, Jira).
- Experience managing budgets, vendor milestones, and cost tracking in multi-supplier environments.

Qualifications
- Degree in Business, Technology, or related field preferred.
- Recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, or Agile certification) are highly desirable.
